Sailor-Made Dipper

This is a fabulous early piece!  Late 18th to early 19th C, sailor-made with the bowl being carved from a small coconut and skillfully decorated with a floral design.  The bowl has an applied silver rim and housing that attaches the nut to a masterfully carved Baleen handle that is embellished with a decorated piece of silver mid-shaft and also at the tip, with a tiny ring for hanging. Great patina! A fabulous early nautical piece!
