Stunning silk embroidery, late 18th to early 19th C. The universal appeal of this piece can be seen in the maker's choice of assorted flowers and foliage. Rendered in soft hues, they delight the eye. The dimensional style of two birds perched atop the highly embellished woven basket are handsomely designed and competently executed. Possibly French origin. An extraordinary piece of early hand stitched work!
(minor imperfections, one small patch repair to background)
