Early Blue Firkin

Tightly staved early 19th C. swing handled firkin that appears never to have had a top and may have been used for gathering duty, perhaps in a garden. Locked lap bands are original, as are even the whittled pins securing the steam bent handle. Rare original blue paint. Ca. 9” at the base tapering to 8” at the rim. Minor surface imperfections consistent with age and use. A couple of tiny modern nails were added at some point to secure the lapped band due to shrinkage. Common.
