Early 19th C. Button Hole Banded Firkin
This substantial firkin has button-hole bands, which are quite desirable. The handle is attached with hand carved wood pegs. The bands are secured with with early cut nails. It is quite heavy for its size, so I believe it is made of Chestnut or Ash. But I am not 100% certain. It measures 11 1/2" tall (16" to the top of the handle) by 11" wide at the top by 12" wide at the base.
A wonderful early example!
