This fabulous piece of folk art dates to the early 1920's.  This may have been executed by a child or young adult memorializing a family pet they called "Clarissa".  It is made from early scraps of linen and what appears to be either cottom or worn velvet.  The materials are hand stitched to a paper backing.  She has a red hand stitched nose, carpet thread whiskers and button eyes.  The ball of string is made from blue light weight yard.  The title name is carefully hand drawn on a seperate piece of paper that is glued glued in place.  It is housed in it's original gilt frame that has been painted over in gold paint at some point.  Remnants of early newspaper print are on the wood backing.  There is an early radio guide and an ad for mens suits priced at just $19.50!  A super folk art cat that is without a doubt a one-of-a-kind!   It measures 13-3/4" by 12-3/4".
