Civil Ware Period Frame

This outstanding Civil War frame is in its original gilding.  A detailed eagle sits at the crest with a long laurel branch draped down from his talons.  A scroll, depicting the Constitution, sits at the base. Surrounding the photo area, just inside the lip of the frame, are 34 stars.  On the back of the frame are two notes.  One that is scratched out, but it probably had the name of the person in the photo, which is now missing.  A better eye might be able to see it.  The other note reads, "Presented by Mr. Wili___d of New York city, 1862, while ___ boarded at Dr. Helemen's".  It measures 18 1/4" from the top of the eagle to the base of the scroll and is 12" wide.  The photo/glass area measures 7 1/4" wide by 9 1/4" tall.  In fine condition with the exception of one repaired wing tip and one missing wing tip on the eagle,  commensurate with age and use.  Original glass.
