This is a beautiful mid 19th C. porcelain and brass lamp weight, hand painted and in near perfect condition.  It is still filled with its original tiny lead ball bearings.  Lamp weights like this one were used as counter-weights to raise and lower early oil lamps for the purpose of lighting and extinguishing.  This one has an elaborate design in very pleasing colors.  (one chip to the cable wheel).
