This fabulous early 19th C. Mennonite spoon holder was purchased at a country auction in Perry County, Ohio.  I have held it in my collection for over 15 years.  It is made entirely out of pine and secured with tiny forged nails.  The cross sections are also notched and mortised.  The spoon holders are hand carved, and the entire piece has decorative circles or pinwheels hand notched into the wood.  It has a fabulous attic surface.  There is normal wear from use, with a couple of very early chips on the wood.  But it is still in wonderful condition for its age!  It measures 16-3/8" in overall height by 18-7/8" in overall width.  It extends from the wall 1-3/4".  A super primitive piece!
