Circus side-shows from the turn of the century through the fifties boasted unbelievable freaks of nature and death-defying-acts.  And the banners that lured the crowds in were equally entertaining.  These banners not only proclaimed the coming attractions, but have been passed down to us as a genre unique in American Folk Art.    Jack Sigler, Tampa, Florida (now deceased) was the artist of this banner.  He brought art to the carnival midways of the 30's, 40's and 50's. Each banner was painted for a particular exhibit, therefore, most are one-of-a-kind.  This particular banner, “Turtle Gal”, advertises a woman who is have human and half amphibian. It measures approximately 4' 8" by  4' 8".  Ca. 1950, very fine condition with the exception of two missing grommet rings.
