19th C. Folk Art Painting On Mushroom Conk Shelf

An extraordinary 19th Century, Victorian period, Folk Art oil painting of a northeastern coastline. The oil painting was created on a tree mushroom conk shelf fungus. The painting depicts a peaceful, tranquil scene of a person with a dog sitting on the bank watching people in a rowboat. There are also trees and a house on the distant shore. The color of the sky is blue (also the base color) with mottled grey clouds. An impressive and rare large size measuring 24" wide by 14.5" tall and is 4.5" thick. It is mounted on a wood base. The condition of this item is very good, considering the age. The approximate date of the painting would be the 1880s.to 1890s. It should be noted it does have minor chips and crazing in the paint that is consistent with age. The painting has a very earthy quality and it would be a great addition to any Folk Art collection.
