This stunning oil on cavas Hudson Valley landscape is a great example of American Folk Art. Although done somewhat naively, the artisit (probably a student) did a very fine job of capturing the fine details and beautiful sunbeamed sky. There is so much going on in this painting. There are two houses on a bank with smoke billowing from their chimneys, a woman in a long dress and shawl walking up the lane toward the houses with a man not far behind her, a small island with what appears to be two church steeples showing above the tree line, numerous sail boats off in the distance around the isle and inlet, one larger boat with a man on board in the forground and a folky sun shining its beams down from the clouds to illuminate it all. The painting is in its original period frame. From a private Kentucky collection. Measuring 36-1/4" by 28-1/4" with a sight measurement of 23-1/2" by 31-1/4". (with scattered touch-ups).
