This interesting architectural element is made of iron and retains a wonderful paint history of a dirty white over an earlier leaf green with traces of rust showing through. It is very decorative with its fan-shaped crest and beautiful scrolling sides. I am not sure what it came from, but probably the top of a doorway to a building. I would guess that it dates from the third quarter of the 19th C. up to the turn of the 20th C. It measures 18-1/4" wide by 10-3/4" tall by 3" deep at the base flanges. The piece is an inch thick. A great decorative piece!
