This is an outstanding painted and decorated box that was most likely used for houseing a painters supplies, as the finely paint decorated surface suggest that it was done by someone of great artistic abilities. It has the initials of its owner, R.L.M., stenciled on the top of the box. The box is finely dovetailed and has a most interesting canvas strap handle on top that is attached with decoratively cut leather, held in place with early tiny brads. The paint decoration is then done to emulate the shape of the leather part of the handle. A truely decorative box. Measuring 30"L by 9"D by 4-1/2" T.
