This marvelous washstand retains its original painted and decorated surface, with grape clusters and foliate stenciled designs on a chrome yellow ground with green and black pinstriping.  The upper gallery is dovetailed and has two small corner shelves and a hole for the wash basin.  But interestingly it comes with the original basin cover that transforms the washstand into a side table when not being used for washing purposes.  It is rare to find one with the original removable cover in tact.  The cover is also in the original chrome yellow paint, but with a bit more wear.  The block and turned legs surround a lower shelf with a single dovetailed drawer with original wood pulls.  Ca. 1840.  Measuring 16"D by 18-1/2"W  and 38"T at the backsplash and 32"T at the front edge.  A very functional and decorative piece!
