This wonderful early make-do whale oil lamp has a hand-blown globe and is attached to a finely, hand-turned candle stick base. It still retains its early font. This one was most likely an all glass whale oil lamp at one time. But over the course of it's lifetime it must have been broken and in an effort to safe money the owner used what he had to keep it working. That is the beauty of make-do's. I just love them! A great early piece of lighting. Ca. 1840's.
