This is a wonderful firkin (or sugar bucket) that is adorned in its original mulberry painted surface.  I rarely see these in this rare color.  This firkin has nicely lapped finger bands and a bail handle secured with wooden knobs and posts that are mortised into the sides.  It shows signs of good shrinkage, confirming that the paint is original.  The handle has an early crack at the very crest, but it has been there were quite some time and remains secure.  There is also a tight crack in the base which has also been there for some time. It measures 12" tall (20-1/2" to the top of the handle).  The diameter at the top is 12" and 12-1/2" at the base.  A nice large country firkin in great condition in a much sought after color.
