Miniature Virginia Chest

This adorable little chest came out of the Rodibaugh Collection in Indiana.  The Rodibaugh's were avid collectors who traveled the country in search of fine Americana, with an emphasis on Southern pieces.  This is a miniature Virginia chest, made out of walnut with what appears to be a poplar base.  The lid has as applied edge molding and is attached with butt hinges.  The case is mortised and pegged construction, with the corner posts terminating in finely turned feet.  It is all original and quite small, measuring just 19 1/2" wide by 10 1/2" deep by 12" tall.  A terrific little Virginia miniature!  Ca. 1830-1840.
