This is a wonderful early paint decorated box in a very unusual size.  The surface is paint decorated to simulate birds-eye maple.  It has it's original period brass bail handle and original working lock with key.  The interior has a replaced wood divider.  It is nailed and mortised contruction.  Ca. 1830-1840.  Believed to have been used as an artists box, although its interior is exceptionally clean.  It measures 30" long by 9-1/4" deep by 5-1/2" tall.
