Wonderful Primitive Rocking Horse In Original Dry Painted Surface
The joined wood body is gessoed and painted in detail with a red mouth and nose, detail black eyes and hooves, white body all in original paint with a dry surface, original rosettes and leather ears, the original saddle with blanket remains, presumably the original horsehair tail, wood rockers and platform in original blue paint with mustard decoration, circa 1870s.
Measures 28 x 50 x 10 inches. Original condition with expected wear from use and age. Note: warped and scattered repairs to the rockers, minor separations and losses to body, as shown.
