American Sheet Iron Indian

I love this folky piece!  I believe that it is an early locomotive ornament because of its smaller size and based on its uncanny resemblance to those shown in American Index of Design, by Robert Bishop.  It has a great surface, retaining most of its poly-chrome paint decorated surface.  With an array of colors, black, yellow, red white, green, blue and orange.  One side has more wear than the other.  Mounted on a layered wood base for display that is painted green and darkened with age.  In great untouched, "as found" condition.  It measures slightly over 12" tall and  the base measures 10 1/4" in length.  See the American Index of Design for a very similar example.   A great piece of American folk art!
