South Carolina 6-board pine chest, late 18th century, on a raised Chippendale painted base with a molded edge.  A series of nine feather dovetails join the corners of these exceptional wide pine planks that distinguish the classic 6-board chest construction.  Deep red/brown paint is original to the base. An internal side till on the left  and a mouse hole at the top corner further characterize this chest's household importance. . The stepped molded trim edge to the top is a further refinement to the scale of the 6-board chest and its Southern origin.  Purchased years ago  from Swan Tavern in Yorktown, VA.  It measures 38" wide by 17" deep by 22" in height.  (original cotter-pin hinges replaced with new strap iron hinges).
