A very honest and pure example of rural Tennessee furniture.  This chimney cupboard is constructed entirely out of walnut, has a flared cornice, very high "boot jack" ends, and a single door with scratch-bead edging that continures down into the legs.  The door also has a unique  wooden locking mechanism.  There are four interior shelves that are rabited into the sides and a three-board back.  Tennessee origin, probably Wilson County.  Ca. 1830-1840. Measuring 69-1/2" tall by 13" deep by 23-1/4" wide.on the case.  27" wide by 15" deep at the cornice.  For an identical example, and quite possibly "the" cupboard shown in the book, see The Art and Mystery of Tennessee Furniture, p. 28, Fig. 18.
