This very sweet little vinegar paint decorated
box dates to the mid 1800s. It has a bone or ivory knob for opening and the interior is lined with early stenciled wallpaper and an inscription showing that this box was made for a young girl by her uncle. It appears to have its original hinges and leather straps (one strap broken). Made out of pine and constructed with tiny T-head nails. It measures a small 10"w by 6-1/2" d by 4-3/4" t. A gem of a little paint decorated box!
