Classic 18th C. Virginia Walnut Chest

A bracket foot base with center drop, and delicate inlays on both top and front, with fine holly stringing on every finished surface, warm rich color. Beautifully crafted with precise dovetailing all around. Inside, an open right hand till in yellow pine and original wrought iron strap hinges with fishtail terminals. 39” wide by 17" deep by 18" tall. Found in central Virginia, but may have been made further east, perhaps in the Williamsburg area. Ca. 1780-1800. Imperfections consistent with age, including some small areas of loss to the string inlay, a later brace between back feet for stability, and missing the lock.
