This wonderful early 19th C. tablet-back writing arm Windsor chair exhibits an "H" stretcher base,
dart-like spindles, an unusually long tongue support and a single dovetailed drawer with original
lock and key.  It is adorned in a wonderfully worn red-washed surface that appears to be original to
the chair and signed "G. Cole".    Ca. 1820-1830.  This is the most comfortable and functional
writing arm Windsor that you will ever sit in!     Measuring 35-1/2" tall at the back; 39" wide; with a seat height of 17-1/2".  Mixed woods of pine and hardwoods.  (minor imperfections, repaired drawer glides)

George Cole, Philadelphia/Halifax (1808-1859), was the son of James Cole.  He apprenticed under his father (a noted chair maker in Phildelphia) at an early age and started producing chairs on his
own in Nova Scotia in the mid 1820s and continued producing them until his death in 1859.
